Unlike many drone operators, Halo Vue holds full broadcaster approvals from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Netflix, and Sky — making us one of a small number of independent operators pre-approved to fly on productions for major UK and international networks. This broadcaster approval status means no delays, no additional vetting, and complete confidence in compliance from the first call.
What is News Drone Filming?
News drone filming is the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) to capture aerial footage for broadcast journalism, press photography, and live television coverage. Drone operators work alongside news crews, broadcast trucks, and satellite uplink teams to deliver aerial perspective on breaking stories — from flood events and major incidents to public gatherings, infrastructure stories, and environmental reporting.

The DJI Mini 5 Pro is our primary rapid-response aircraft for news deployment. Sub-250g and highly portable, it can be airborne within minutes of arrival on scene. The Mavic 4 Pro is our preferred aircraft for extended news coverage events, press days, and live event broadcasting where flight time is critical.
DJI Inspire 2 X7 — Full Broadcast Quality
For live events requiring the highest broadcast specification, the DJI Inspire 2 with Super 35mm X7 camera delivers footage that rivals traditional news helicopter cameras. With raw capture capability and direct video output via HDMI or SDI, the Inspire 2 can feed directly into a satellite uplink truck or LiveU unit for real-time live transmission — making it the choice for major national broadcast events.

All Halo Vue broadcast drone aircraft support HDMI and SDI output, enabling direct connection to LiveU portable uplink units, satellite trucks, and broadcast infrastructure. How quickly can Halo Vue deploy for breaking news?
Depending on location relative to our base in West Yorkshire, we can typically be on site within 1–2 hours across most of Northern England. For Leeds, Bradford, Huddersfield, Halifax, and surrounding areas, response times can be significantly shorter. We carry go-bags for rapid deployment and can begin pre-flight checks immediately on arrival.
Do you hold broadcaster approvals for news work?
Yes. Halo Vue holds full broadcaster approval from the BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Netflix, and Sky — meaning we can be commissioned directly by production companies and broadcast teams without additional supplier vetting. This approval process is rigorous and covers insurance, CAA authorisation, operational procedures, and safety management.
Can you fly over crowds or incident scenes?
Under our CAA PDRA-01 authorisation, we are permitted to operate over populated and congested areas, including public gatherings, subject to appropriate risk assessment and operational planning. We work closely with police liaison officers, local authorities, and event organisers to establish safe operating parameters for every deployment.
Can you deliver footage for same-day broadcast?
Yes. Raw footage can be transferred immediately on landing via high-speed file transfer, and edited packages can be turned around for same-day inclusion in broadcast news programmes. For live events, we can feed footage directly into your broadcast infrastructure in real time via SDI or HDMI output to LiveU or satellite uplink.
What insurance do you carry?
Halo Vue carries £5 million public liability insurance through Moonrock/Hiscox (policy HMC820451026), valid until May 2027. Full insurance documentation is available on request and is already on file with all major UK broadcasters as part of our supplier approval status.
