The Real "Happy Valley"

Halovue Aerial Photography was part of a team of drone operators commissioned to film season 3 of the BBC smash hit drama Happy Valley, however only Phil Fearnley and his drone team actually live in this stunning location.

After filming with renowned writer Sally Wainwright, who also went to the same school as Phil, on both season one and two of the BBC / HBO drama Gentleman Jack, also set in Calderdale it was a great honour to fly the drones for Sally and the team at Lookout Point productions.
Phil also had the pleasure of having one of the filming locations right on his doorstep in Ripponden making his trip to the flying locations the shortest he’s ever had. As well as this his home was also used as the green room for several cast members including Catherine Cawed played by Sara Lancashire, Joanna Hepworth played by Mollie Winnard, Faisal Bhatti played by Amit Shah and the Poppy and Florence the Hepworth children.

So when Phil wasn’t flying you could find him making cups of tea for the stars, making this a very Happy Valley.

Due to its picturesque location it has been used by many Film and Tv companies including The BBC drama, Happy Valley, Ackley Bridge and  Last Tango in Halifax.

The Piece Hall

The Piece Hall is a Grade I listed structure has stood at the heart of Halifax since 1779.

Originally a cloth hall but now a unique location housing small bespoke shops, wine bars and restaurants. 

It also hosts events and more recently live outdoor concerts.

However in 2022 it was also the filming location for one of the new Marvel Movies “Secret Invasion” as well as the films “Brassed Off” and ” Rita Sue and Bob Too”

Wainhouse Tower

Wainhouse Tower is a folly in the parish of King Cross, on the south-west side of Halifax, Calderdale, West Yorkshire, in England. At 275 feet, it is the tallest structure in Calderdale and the tallest folly in the world, and was erected in the four years between 1871 and 1875.

This iconic structure has featured in may TV programs but its most famously known for its part in the opening titles of the BBC drama Happy Valley season Two.

Shibden Hall

 

Shibden Hall is a Grade II* listed historic house located in a public park at Shibden, West Yorkshire, England. The building has been extensively modified from its original design by generations of residents, although its Tudor half-timbered frontage remains its most recognisable feature.

One of its most notable residents was Anne Lister who inherited the hall from a relative. Lister has been described as being the “first modern lesbian” due to her “love… [of] the fairer sex” that she documented in her diaries.[1]

More recently Shibden Hall was used to film the BBC / HBO drama Gentleman jack which ran for two seasons. Phil Fearnley and his team were the aerial filming unit with their drones on both series one and two.

Calderdale and ShibdenHall has now become a well established , must visit filming location for travellers.
